West Michigan Soccer Referee Association

The Assignment System

  1. Our deadlines for game schedules are 3-1 and 8-1 each year. That's when your assigners (presently Heinz Meyer and Loren Heun) start the assigning refs. If you can work games only on certain days (e.g. Mondays and Fridays) or at certain times (e.g. 7 pm), or if you have an otherwise restricted schedule, you should tell us. If you want no games in spring or in fall, please tell us that, too. Without that information, we have to reassign your games by phone. That is very time consuming (and not a good way to make Brownie points...)
  2. The schedule is usually sent out to you at the end of the month (March or August) and we need it returned immediately. Don't postpone your response to find out about your son's schedule (call us, we should already have it). If you plan to be out of town at the end of March or August, please tell us: If you cannot confirm your games, we cannot leave them on the schedule.
  3. Games not confirmed or cancelled by the assigned referee must be reassigned within a few days. Delays in returning your schedule and information sheet or not returning phone calls is rather inconsiderate (to put it mildly). Games not accepted by the ref will be reassigned by Heinz, if he is notified before the listed deadline.
  4. Games accepted by the referee, must be reffed or (after the deadline) reassigned by the ref, according to the procedure listed on the WMSRA Info Sheet. Heinz must be notified so the sub can be listed on the WMSRA web site.

PLEASE NOTE:

Sometimes assigned games are too tough for your level of experience, sometimes they are not challenging enough. Please tell us! Write a note on the information sheet or the schedule/ or call us. We do not look at that as complaints but as feedback. If you are unhappy with the results of this feedback, please call a WMSRA board member. The number of games depends mostly on your availability and the time/location of the scheduled games. And please remember: We need your prompt cooperation in March and August. If you are out of town in these two weeks, please make arrangements with a family member or a friend to handle your schedule.
