West Michigan Soccer Referee Association

Advice On Assignments

If you want games...
1. Register with USSF by filling out the registration form (sign and date!) and attending a 5-hour recertification clinic.
2. Bring a $30 check (payable to Mich. Referee Comm.) and a $30 check ($15.- for associates, $15 if under 18, payable to WMSRA) to the clinic, and
3. Pass written and physical test by
... 31 December! (assignments start on Valentine's Day)

If you want more games...
1. Be available: return phone calls, send a calendar if you have an unusual work schedule, send a note if you go on vacation or want to skip a season (by 2/15 or 7/15),
2. Be reliable: don't miss games, call your partners before the game,
3. Be punctual: 20 min before HS and WMYSA games; 30 min before college and LC games
4. Look sharp,
5. Do a good job, and
6. Keep learning.

If you want fewer games...
1. Don't read those WMSRA newsletters,
2. Don't return phone calls,
3. Don't return required forms (if you do, wait past the deadline, fill them out incompletely, and don't sign them),
4. Don't give us your new address or phone number,
5. Don't come to our cracker barrel sessions, but
6. procrastinate and
7. argue with coaches.
